An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 shakes the Philippines. So far four people have died and dozens have been injured. The population fled from the buildings after an earthquake that has caused extensive damage to thirty roads, bridges and more than 150 buildings, also historic.

“The situation continues to evolve and will do so in the coming days. But I believe that everything that could be done has been done. We have even anticipated the needs of those who have been victims of this very serious earthquake“, highlighted the country’s president Ferdinand Marcos.

Some 15 cities were affected. The most serious damage occurred is the province of Abra located in the north of the island of Luzon. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers and more aftershocks are expected.

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Luzon, the Philippines' most populous island, on Wednesday morning, killing at least four people, causing dozens of landslides and severely damaging buildings, officials said. https://t.co/jx2WJDRJkQ pic.twitter.com/JI6VNbwhaQ

A villager was killed when he was hit by falling cement slabs at his house in Abra, where at least 25 other people were injured and mostly confined to hospitals, authorities said.

The shock, recorded at 8:43 local time, was felt in the capital, where it surprised citizens who had to evacuate some buildings as a precaution. Patients and medical staff were evacuated from at least two hospitals in Manila, but were later told to return after minor cracks were found in the walls.
