Zoom, one of the leading companies for remote work during the pandemic, has asked some of its employees to return to the office for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 restrictions for work. The platform became one of the main communication tools for people who needed to keep doing their laboral tasks from their places.
Zoom, which still is a leader in the post-pandemic work trend, requested their employees who live near (about 80 kilometers) an office to “be onsite two days a week,” citing effectiveness as one of the main reasons for this adjustment. As a result, workers would be following a hybrid schedule. About this decision, the video-conferencing company stated:
“As a company, we are in a better position to use our own technologies, continue to innovate, and support our global customers. We’ll continue to leverage the entire Zoom platform to keep our employees and dispersed teams connected and working efficiently.”
The company, based in San José, had a significant increase in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic left millions at home having to utilize their service from their computers or other devices. Since then, Zoom has become one of the most prominent platforms to offer remote video-conferencing services. However, the company took a plunge in 2021, when it lost approximately 100 billion dollars in market value.
With this decision, Zoom hops into the “back to the office” trend that has been going on in technology companies. For instance, other massive names such as Google, Amazon, and Salesforce made similar changes after the pandemic era, at least as we knew it a few years ago, came to an end.
