Last month, Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk announced the rebranding of the now-extinct Twitter. The social media platform went through changes in its logo and name. Because of this, users are no longer seeing the iconic blue bird on their apps and have also seen that the “Twitter” name was replaced with “X.”
Following these changes, the company decided to install a new “X” at the top of its building, which was known as the Twitter headquarters, upon rebranding its name and logo. Unfortunately, the authorities from San Francisco Building Inspection Department had the “X” removed from the building on Monday, July 31.
According to the Notice of Violation (NOV) the X building received, they undertook work without a permit for the new sign, which flashes at night. The new logo received around 24 complaints from people who were worried about the unsafety and risks the logo might imply, considering its bright lighting. Patrick Hannan, the department’s spokesperson, stated:
“Over the weekend, the Department of Building Inspection and City Planning received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure, including concerns about its structural safety and illumination. This morning, building inspectors observed the structure being dismantled. A building permit is required to remove the structure but, due to safety concerns, the permit can be secured after the structure is taken down.”
In addition, Hannan stated that “the property owner will be assessed fees for the unpermitted installation of the illuminated structure. The fees will be for building permits for the installation and removal of the structure, and to cover the cost of the Department of Building Inspection and the Planning Department’s investigation.”
