At the recent FuelFest event in Pomona, California, on June 29, 2025, Vin Diesel confirmed that the eleventh and final installment of the saga will premiere in April 2027, provided that three key conditions are met:
Return to filming action scenes in Los Angeles.
Bring back street racing and the classic car culture that defined the franchise.
Reunite Dominic Toretto with Brian O’Conner, the iconic character portrayed by Paul Walker.
How could Brian O’Conner return?
Following Paul Walker’s tragic death in November 2013, his character received an emotional farewell in Fast & Furious 7 (2015), using CGI and body doubles—his brothers Cody and Caleb helped complete his final scenes. Now, Diesel suggests using similar techniques—CGI, artificial intelligence, and body doubles (possibly again with Cody Walker)—to fully bring back Brian O’Conner.
Reactions and Debate
The news has sparked both excitement and controversy.
For many fans, this would be a touching reunion between Dom and Brian, tapping into nostalgia and honoring Paul Walker’s legacy. However, it also raises ethical and creative questions: Will it truly benefit the conclusion of the saga? Is it respectful to digitally revive the late actor? Some critics believe that the emotional send-off in Fast & Furious 7 should remain untouched.
Current Status of the Project
Although Fast X (2023) grossed over $700 million worldwide, its reception was mixed and seen as less impactful compared to previous entries.
Production of the final film has faced several delays, initially planned for 2025, then 2026, and now officially scheduled for April 2027, partly due to ongoing negotiations between Diesel and Universal.
