Ford Recalls Over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape Vehicles Due to Fire Risk

Ford Motor Company has announced the recall of more than 694,000 units of its Bronco Sport and Escape models due to a fuel injector defect that could lead to engine fires.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from potential cracks in the fuel injectors, which may cause fuel leaks inside the engine compartment. If the leaked fuel comes into contact with hot engine or exhaust components, the risk of fire significantly increases.

The recall affects certain Bronco Sport vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2024 and Escape models from 2020 to 2022, all equipped with 1.5-liter engines.

Ford began investigating the issue back in 2022. Since then, the automaker has implemented several software updates, with previous recalls issued in November 2022, March 2024, and March 2025. However, the company is still actively examining the root cause and, between April and May of this year, focused on corrosion as a contributing factor to the injector cracks.

During its investigation, Ford identified cracks in the fuel injectors of eight vehicles that experienced under-hood fires. In six of those cases, the vehicles did not have the engine control software updated. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.

Earlier this July, Ford’s field review committee decided to initiate a new recall campaign to provide a free engine control software update to the affected vehicles as a precautionary measure while a permanent fix is developed.

Ford will send a first notification letter to vehicle owners on August 18, warning them about the potential safety risk. A second letter will follow once the final remedy is available.

Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25S76.
