A total of 18 people sustained minor injuries after a Ryanair aircraft was evacuated following a fire alert shortly before takeoff to Manchester, while still on the ground at Palma Airport.
The incident occurred at 12:36 a.m. when the SAMU 061 emergency coordination center received a report of a possible fire on board a plane parked at Son Sant Joan Airport. Although no visible flames were detected, the aircraft’s fire warning system was activated, prompting an immediate evacuation.
Tense moments unfolded during the evacuation, as some passengers panicked and tried to exit the aircraft in a disorderly manner, complicating the emergency response.
Four ambulances — two Advanced Life Support units and two Basic Life Support units — were dispatched to the scene, along with airport firefighters and Civil Guard officers.
Of the 18 people injured, six required hospital care: three were taken to ClÃnica Rotger and three to Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire alert and the circumstances surrounding the evacuation.
