Israel Ends Military Offensive Against Iran After Accepting Ceasefire Proposed by Trump

Israel announced on Tuesday the end of its military offensive against Iran, launched on June 13, after agreeing to a bilateral ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the Israeli government, the operation succeeded in neutralizing what it called the “dual threat” posed by Iran’s nuclear program and its ballistic missiles. However, officials warned they would respond forcefully to any breach of the agreement.

Trump confirmed that the truce came into effect at 04:00 GMT and urged both sides to maintain mutual respect. The announcement came amid renewed hostilities: Israeli warplanes bombed northern Iran, killing nine people, while Tehran retaliated with missile strikes on Beersheba in southern Israel, resulting in four civilian deaths. Air raid sirens once again sounded in Tel Aviv and other cities.

While Israel affirmed its commitment to the ceasefire, Iran has yet to formally endorse the deal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied that any agreement had been signed, though he stated that Tehran would halt its attacks if Israel suspended its offensive.

On Monday, Iran had launched missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid air base in Qatar in retaliation for American airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. The international community is watching developments closely amid uncertainty over whether the truce will hold.

From Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Tuesday the “end of the 12-day war” imposed, in his words, by Israel. “Today, following the heroic resistance of our great nation—whose determination will go down in history—we are witnessing the establishment of a ceasefire and the end of this war sparked by Israel’s adventurism,” he said in a statement broadcast by the official IRNA news agency.

Pezeshkian also expressed Tehran’s willingness to resolve its disputes with the United States within the framework of international law. His comments came during a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to IRNA. The conversation took place a day after President Trump announced the ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran.

At the United Nations, Secretary-General António Guterres urged both nations to honor the ceasefire. “The fighting must stop. The people of both countries have suffered too much already,” Guterres wrote on X, adding that he hoped the truce could serve as a model for resolving other regional conflicts, such as the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Airports Authority announced that Ben Gurion and Haifa airports have resumed full operations following the Home Front Command’s decision to lift all remaining wartime restrictions. Limits on incoming and outgoing flights and passenger capacity have been removed, and full access to terminals has been restored. Duty-free shops at both airports are set to reopen on Wednesday morning.

Airport officials stated they are in constant contact with both Israeli and international airlines to update flight schedules and speed up the full restoration of air traffic. Travelers are advised to follow airline announcements for the latest updates. Land border crossings will continue operating normally, the authority added.
