The Trump Organization has made a surprise move into the telecommunications sector with the launch of Trump Mobile, a new virtual mobile operator, and the unveiling of its first smartphone, the T1 Phone. The announcement coincided with the tenth anniversary of Donald Trump’s entry into politics. While the former president attended the G7 summit, his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., were tasked with presenting the family’s latest business venture.
Despite his political career, Trump has never distanced himself from the business world. In fact, his second presidential term has seen initiatives that strengthen his commercial interests. Now, under the banner of economic nationalism, Trump Mobile pledges to use networks and hardware “made in the USA”—though in reality, it will operate on the infrastructure of telecom giants like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
While customers will be able to use any compatible device, Trump Mobile has also introduced its own smartphone, the T1, priced at $499 plus tax. The device, already available for pre-order on the company’s website and scheduled for release in September, features a gold-colored casing adorned with the U.S. flag and displays the former president’s campaign slogan: “Make America Great Again.”
Running on Android, the T1 offers mid-to-high-range specifications: 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage, a 50-megapixel main camera, and a 6.8-inch display. The manufacturer and production location have not been disclosed. It’s worth noting that Apple, the global leader in the smartphone market, still manufactures its devices in Asia due to the high cost of U.S.-based production.
Trump Mobile will operate as a mobile virtual network operator, with an initial offering called Plan 47, priced at $47.45 per month, a nod to Trump being both the 45th and 47th president of the United States. The plan includes unlimited calls, texts, and data, along with a suite of additional services: 24/7 roadside assistance through Drive America, virtual healthcare, mental health support, prescription delivery, and free international calls to over 100 countries — with an emphasis on those hosting U.S. military bases, as a tribute to families serving abroad.
One of the company’s key selling points is its U.S.-based customer service. “Trump Mobile’s support is not automated. When customers call, they speak to a real person,” the company emphasizes.
During the launch event, Donald Trump Jr. stated, “We’ve partnered with some of the top names in the industry to ensure everyday Americans get real value from their mobile providers.” He also highlighted the all-in-one service package: “We’re offering a complete bundle where users can access telemedicine, roadside assistance, and unlimited international texting to more than 100 countries—all for a fixed monthly fee.”
The Trump Organization recently filed trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to use the president’s name and the term T1 for telecommunications services. These applications cover mobile phones, cases, chargers, wireless services, and potentially retail stores.
This move marks yet another expansion by the Trump family beyond its traditional footprint in real estate, luxury hotels, and golf resorts. In recent years, they’ve ventured into digital media and cryptocurrency. Trump Media, parent company of Truth Social, is publicly traded with a market valuation exceeding $5 billion, despite reporting losses and modest revenue. The company has recently raised capital and issued bonds to purchase bitcoin, signaling a strategic push into diversified investments.
