A new wave of violence, reminiscent of Colombia’s darkest days in the 1980s, has once again shaken the country. On Tuesday, June 10, at least two simultaneous explosions hit the city of Cali, in the country’s western region, leaving one person dead and at least five others injured.
The explosive devices were detonated near two police facilities. The first blast occurred near the police station in the Meléndez neighborhood, in the southern part of the city. Minutes later, a second explosion was reported at the Immediate Attention Center (CAI) in the Manuela Beltrán neighborhood.
“We are responding to two explosive devices in our city: one at the Meléndez police station and another at the CAI in Manuela Beltrán. Our security forces are already on the scene, and medical teams are on alert for any emergency,” said Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Preliminary reports indicate that both bombs were hidden in motorcycles. The only confirmed fatality so far is a man who made a living watching over motorcycles in the area.
