More and more companies are looking to integrate artificial intelligence into their work environments. One of the main reasons is its ability to optimize content management, while others use it to streamline processes that would otherwise take a long time. However, Sony’s use of AI has sparked controversy, especially after attempts to conceal that they were employing it to recreate some of their most iconic characters.

Artificial intelligence is here to stay, and many companies are adopting it to improve productivity. However, since its emergence, there has also been ongoing debate about its potential negative impact, particularly its ability to “replace” aspects that have traditionally relied on human labor. Recently, a leak revealed that Sony has been experimenting with AI to recreate emblematic characters from its most well-known franchises.

It is not surprising that a company of Sony’s caliber is exploring new applications of artificial intelligence, as nearly all major corporations are doing the same for various purposes. The issue arises when the use of this technology raises concerns among users. In this case, the leak suggests that Sony is considering the possibility of generating characters using AI, with a recreation of Aloy being showcased as an example.

The revealed prototype demonstrates how Sony utilizes OpenAI tools for speech-to-text conversion, while models like GPT-4 and Llama 3 are used to generate in-game conversations and decision-making. Additionally, the company has developed its own EVS (Emotional Voice Synthesis) system, which can generate both speech and facial animation in real time.

For now, it remains just an experiment, but the news has raised concerns among players, especially following recent revelations about AI-generated content being used in the gaming industry. What is clear is that Sony is committed to this technology, whether to implement virtual assistants within games or even to generate entire game elements.

Until now, AI in video games has primarily focused on upscaling technologies, but companies seem willing to take it further, exploring the possibility of creating all game assets using artificial intelligence.
