A United Kingdom nurse was found guilty of killing seven babies and attempting to commit the murder of other six newborns in the neonatal ward of the Countess of Chester Hospital. Reportedly, this has been the worst serial baby killer in the United Kingdom in recent years.

The former health worker, identified as Lucy Letby, harmed the babies she was supposed to care for. The 33-year-old woman injected air into the babies’ blood and stomach. In addition, Manchester Crown Court in northern England affirmed that the evidence states she also overfed them with milk, physically assaulted them, and poisoned them with insulin.

Letby committed these criminal acts against the newborns between 2015 and 2016. She deceived her colleagues into believing their deaths were natural, according to evidence from prosecutors. After this, doctors noticed a significant increase in the number of dead babies. As a result, the police commenced an investigation.

Letby was three times by the authorities due to her being connected to the investigation. In 2018 and 2019 she was detained and was finally arrested again in November 2020. Regarding her acts, the former health worker stated in some memos:

“I don’t deserve to live. I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them. I am a horrible evil person. I am evil I did this.”

Health Secretary Steve Barclay affirmed that the voices of affected parents are “heard.” In addition, it was stated that there are still a number of questions that need to be answered. Still, the families made a joint statement saying, “Justice has been served and the nurse who should have been caring for our babies has been found guilty of harming them.” Letby is going to be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on August 21.
