Classic Nintendo 64 titles have a soft spot in many people’s hearts. An example of this is Super Smash Bros, which is still played and enjoyed by tons of people, and yes that includes former presidents and politicians! As hard as it is to believe, it looks like Barack Obama might be a fan of the original Super Smash Bros release for the Nintendo 64.

A few days ago, it was revealed that professional player and organizer of Super Smash Bros tournaments, Cody Daniels, got the opportunity to participate in the Max Pain Monday poker broadcast from Hustler Casino. This event’s goal was to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Funnily enough, the main event was not the best part, as Daniels had a very interesting anecdote to tell, alongside fellow pro player Daniel ‘Tafokints’ Lee.

Cody Daniels revealed that he got the chance to visit the White House and play a couple of games of Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 64, with no other than the now former President Barack Obama in October 2015. This was made possible thanks to Make-A-Wish, and the player took the occassion to get a photograph and had the politician sign his game cartridge.

Daniels said that he took the video game match easy, and avoided playing his best characters. He chose Ness during his White House visit, while Obama played as as Captain Falcon from F-Zero during their friendly Super Smash Bros. gaming session. It is hard to tell how much experience the politician has with the video game, or if he is even an actual fan. Still, the professional gamer expressed that “Obama was surprisingly decent at the game, much better than the average casual player.”
