Hawaiian surfer Mikala Jones died after suffering an accident during his regular practice. The tragic incident took place on Sunday, July 9th in Sumatra, Indonesia. Reportedly, he attempted to ride a wave over three meters high but this resulted in a falta outcome, as the surfing star died from bleeding after his surfboard fin cut his femoral artery, which is a large blood vessel located in the thigh.

According to the specialized website Duke Surf, the unfortunate news was given by his friend, the Uruguayan surfer, Santiago Pereira. Pereira was alongside the Hawaiian star during his practice and he witnessed this incident. Pereira expressed that Mikala Jones used his GoPro camera in his mouth to film himself and the wave. He then tried to paddle hard to reach the second wave, which was three times larger. As he was able to come out of the water, he noticed that Jones had a cut and immediately let go of the leash connecting him to the board.

After the surfer’s death was made public, his father stated that ” he was a humble artist. His pictures were incredible” in a phone interview on Monday, July 10 in Honolulu. He later added that Jones was aware of the risks surfers have to go through, but still was interested in “taking pictures while he’s surfing of himself and the wave.” He later remembered the situation and described it in detail by saying:

“He was flying in the sky, and he looked down and his body was floating in the ocean. And then he heard his daughters calling to him, ´Daddy come home.´”

Jones will be remembered for his professionalism and skill in surfin. His Instagram account also has the most impressive media content showcasing his command of waves as well as some spectacular shots of him surfing waters.
