The multinational retail corporation, Walmart, will be paying $4 million to a specific group of customers . The sum will be used as compensation to consumers who were victims of a scam involving Walmart’s gift cards. According to the US Department of Justice, which has awarded the affected people around seven years after the fraud was committed in the cards, clients will have the chance to submit a request to get their balance back again.

Reports by Top Class Action state that scammers told people tu purchase gift cards with prices starting from $500 to $1.000 in 2015. After that, Walmart froze the balances on the irregular gift cards, as they were believed to be part of a fraud scheme. After this, the Department of Justice sought ways to help the customers who had lost their money acquiring the cards.

As a result, the authorities have filed a lawsuit against Walmart for the frozen balances on the gift cards, and now the company will have to reimburse the payments in order to repair the measurements they took against the scam scandal. Consequently, Walmart clients will be able to get their money back as compensation for the payments they had charged the cards with.

in this case, consumers will have to fill out a form on Walmart’s official website and request a reimbursement. However, they should have proof that they acquired the suspicious gift cards, and this will only make clients who were affected by the fraud in 2016 and 2017 eligible. Also, the payments will be done based on the amount that was loaded onto the gift card that was acquired during the selected year. However, it might be reduced if the consumer received money from a bank or other source, and the reimbursement will not cover collateral expenses that could have been derived from the scam.
